What’s a Beacon?

My young son asked me, “What’s a beacon?” recently, just before we both fell asleep. It made me think and inspired me to write this blog. Kids ask some wonderful questions, and they even motivate us to rethink and change our perspectives. That’s exactly what a beacon can do for you! Let me explain further below so you understand what I mean.
A beacon can be described as an object that serves as a warning, a guide, or an example for others to emulate. When sailors try to navigate safely around land at night or during a storm, they rely on a lighthouse to show where the land is and help them avoid crashing into rocks. The lighthouse clearly signals to everyone within sight that there’s something to watch out for, while also letting them know land is nearby.
Whenever you’re lost in a modern shopping mall or large campus, you might see navigation beacons that you can use with your smartphone to find your location and get your bearings. They assist you in navigating the complex maze of shops, entertainment, and information so you can easily find what you’re looking for while also getting some steps in.
Sometimes we meet someone who shines brightly and guides us. Such people are our ideals or role models, from whom we can follow and learn in various aspects of life. Maybe it’s a fit, healthy middle-aged man with great relationships. Or perhaps it’s that senior citizen across the street who is always very generous and eager to learn, despite being retired and on a fixed income. Whoever they are, you see them as living beacons that inspire, motivate, and generally make you feel secure.
So the next time you are out and about in the world. Look for the beacons around you to find your way. You’ll know them when you see them!
