The Message of Spring

By Shazad

“Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed... Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders.”

Henry David Thoreau

Spring is arriving, or about to, in many parts of the world. Blooms will begin to show their beauty, and the earth will burst into vibrant colours and delightful fragrances. This period of change will feel like a rebirth or awakening after a long, cold winter. What can we learn from this in our daily lives?

Just like plants, our lives experience cycles of growth, maturity, and decline. These cycles manifest in various aspects of our lives, including education, careers, and relationships. The seeds we “sow” in one season often yield results in the next. For example, planting tomato seeds won’t magically produce a date palm tree. Similarly, we can’t expect rapid growth or full maturity in a short period.

Nature reminds us that with patience, proper care, and planning, great things appear when the time is right.

We need to consciously think about what seeds we are sowing and how we nurture them.

Here are some Questions to consider for your life:

  1. What were you doing for your relationship in the previous season? Did you ‘plant’ anything new, and did you nurture it over time?

  2. What new things did you learn, and what did you ‘prune’ in your education? A well-maintained garden needs to be managed to prevent weeds from taking over and suffocating the plants you actually want to grow. What information or ideas no longer matter to you?

  3. Are you sharing your ‘garden’ with others, or are you keeping it to yourself? The beauty of nature and plants is inviting the people you care about to enjoy it with you. Share your wisdom and kindness with them often. Don’t be a lonely ‘gardener’ who admires his garden all by himself.

There’s so much to love about spring and life, even if you don’t have a green thumb or passion for nature. Let the beauty of the season inspire you to cultivate better habits and a mindset. Grow your perspective and expand your thinking by getting out into nature more often. When you realize that you are a part of the world and it has lessons to teach you, it becomes impossible not to feel reborn each time spring comes around!
