Commit To a Mission
By Shazad
It’s amazing how many people are just coasting through life. They wake up, do the same things, often mindlessly, get tired, and go to sleep. Rinse and repeat. No wonder people are so stressed, depressed, and feeling lost these days. I sincerely believe we need a mission or a greater purpose in life—something that defines the reason we get up in the morning, an ikigai, if you will. This is the only way people can find lasting meaning and joy in life.
Beyond just a generic purpose like ‘serving my family,’ we need clarity on WHY we are serving, along with the WHO. We need crystal clarity on HOW we serve each day. It can be small tasks or big achievements. The point is that we need to be sincere and certain about our intentions.
Every human being feels better knowing when someone cares about them and that what they do matters. It’s not enough to set a mission statement at the start of the year and then forget about it. We need to see it daily and adjust it gradually over time. It’s okay to refine the WHO and HOW components, but the WHY of our mission must be set in stone from the beginning and remain unwavering.
“Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is…”
Use this simple three-step guide to live a Mission-Oriented Life:
WHAT is your mission in life for as long as you live? Define it and have a clear WHY statement.
WHO is it that you will involve or serve in your mission? Be 100% certain and write their names, and have their pictures in front of you daily.
HOW do you plan to achieve your mission? Be specific about the resources, tools, time, and knowledge you have or need to acquire.
That’s it. You now have a straightforward blueprint for spending your days living a quality life with a strong purpose, clarity on the people you need in your life, and concrete action steps to reach your desired outcome. Remember, it might not take a week or even a year in many cases. The journey of being on an important mission is where joy and satisfaction are found. The actual achievement of the mission goal is the cherry on top. Who you become along the way and how you fulfil your role in the grand mission you set for your life is what truly matters.
Live with purpose, and Good Luck on your mission!
