What Is The Purpose of Life?

By Ahsan

"Life is never made unbearable by circumstances, but only by lack of meaning and purpose."

Viktor Frankl

We often spend our youth chasing status, wealth, or perfection, only to realize later that these pursuits were hollow. When we look back on the years behind us, we frequently discover that the things we once prioritized no longer hold weight. This realization often leads to a single, haunting question: What is the true purpose of life?

While the answer is deeply personal, wisdom from across the ages offers a clear compass. Spiritual traditions consistently point toward two foundational pillars: love for the Divine and love for our neighbor.

In the Bible, Jesus identified the greatest commandments as loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and loving your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-39). Similarly, the Quran instructs us to dedicate our entire existence—our prayers, our sacrifices, and our very lives—to the Lord of the worlds (Surah Al-An'am 6:162). Complementing this, the Prophet Muhammad taught that true faith is only realized when we love for our neighbor what we love for ourselves.

When we strip away the noise of modern life, the purpose becomes simple: Love God and Love people.

By anchoring your daily actions in these two commitments, you move away from the pursuit of fleeting validation and toward a life of lasting fulfillment. It is the surest path to a life without regrets.
